  • A fire that broke out at the home of Eddy and Sharon Staton on Vernon Road just south of 1100 Road in the early hours of Tuesday, May 7, left over 85 percent of the house burned. Dee Horttor, Linn County assistant fire chief, said they are unsure what started the blaze; however, it did appear to have begun on the east side of the house. Firefighters from Stations 910, 920 and 950 were on scene, battling the blaze during the wet, stormy weather of early morning for over 4 hours. On Friday, May 10, fire investigators with the insurance company were on scene assessing damage.
