The Mine Creek Battlefield Foundation holds several fundraising events each year and the first and newest is the Civil War Camp Dance. This is a period dance where Mrs. Dee Young, a professional dance caller, leads the dance competition in period dances. The dance is on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Suggested donations are $15 for single, $25 for couple, and $5 for children 12 and under. Come dressed in the 1860s Civil War, western, or pioneer attire. This is encouraged but not required. There will be cookies, punch, and water served. You can expect older western music and other period music and dances. It will take place at the Pleasanton Community Center, 831 Main St. in Pleasanton, Kan. Everyone is invited to watch the period dance.
The foundation was founded by the Linn County Historical Society. It is made up of a board of directors of seven members; whose mission is to keep the historical battlefield in good condition and preserve the land.
Mine Creek is the only battlefield west of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. It is the second-largest calvary battle in the entire Civil War, but that fact was not recognized until 1969.
