Arthur Dean Inscore Sr., “Slim,” 78, of Mound City, Kan., died at home Dec. 31, 2015.

Arthur is survived by two daughters, Linda Inscore and Brenda Jackson; two sons, Arthur Dean Inscore Jr. and Sammy (Eileen) Inscore; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He leaves behind two sisters, Janice Barker of Lane and Diane Downing of Gardner; one niece; and three nephews.

Born and raised in Osawatomie, Kan., Arthur married Helen Elliott of Carrollton, Mo., in 1955 and they made their home in Osawatomie. They had four children. In his younger years, Arthur was known around town for tree trimming, odd jobs and mowing cemeteries. They divorced in the early ‘70s and Arthur relocated to Kansas City, Kan.

In later years, Arthur became an over-the-road truck driver until retiring in the late ‘90s and eventually settling in Mound City.

Arthur is remembered for his kindness, his industriousness, his humor, strong will and gentle heart, in addition to his long, long legs and his beautiful twinkling blue eyes. He saved a portion of whatever he was eating to share with his dear dog, Buddy. He was an original; there is certainly not another like him. He was well-known for the phrase, “Keep your chin up! The bottom side’s purdy, too!”

A celebration of life will be held Monday, Jan 18, at 6 p.m. in the Pleasanton Assembly of God Church. Burial will be planned at a later time.
