Benny E. Lowery, age 91, Pleasanton, Kan., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at his rural Pleasanton home. He was born at Lowell, N.C., on Feb. 6, 1927, the son of Edward William and Pearl Stone Jones Lowery.

After graduating from high school he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He attended plumbing school in Kansas City and received his master plumber’s certification.

Benny married Joan Lucieer on June 23, 1951, at Clarinda, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 2015.

Benny spent his working career in the construction business. He owned and operated Lowery Construction and later Lowery Plumbing and Electric. 

Benny played minor league baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers Farm Team in his younger days. He enjoyed being outdoors, bird hunting or fishing. He was a member of the Worland Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, Lions Club and Plumbers Union Local No. 8. He served on the Pleasanton School Board, for a time as president.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and a sister, Vola Lowder. 

Benny is survived by two sons, Benny Lowery and Carol, and Scott Lowery and Lori; four daughters, Joanie Fatahalian and Farhad, Tricia Welch and Jim, Angie Lowery, and Tana Allen and Jay; a sister, Carol Stuart; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial was in the Pleasanton Cemetery.
