Bernard Francis “Barney” Brady Sr., age 86, La Cygne, Kan., passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018. He was born on Oct. 13, 1931, in Cherokee County, Kan., the son of Bernard and Nell Hines Brady. He graduated from Weir High School and attended Wichita State University.

He married Freeda Commons on April 6, 1952, at Fort Scott, Kan.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning a bronze star. 

He worked as a machinist for Kansas City Power and Light before retiring in 1994. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, IBEW, and Gem and Mineral Society of Deming, N.M. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Frank; and three sisters, Phyllis, Mary and Frances. 

He is survived by his wife, Freeda; three sons, Michael Brady, Bernard Brady Jr. and Sheryl, and Patrick Brady and Kimber; three daughters, Kathleen Brady and Joseph Reed, Rose Snider and Rusty, and Karen Coats and Michael; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 1, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in La Cygne. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mound City, Kan. Rosary was prayed at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. 

Contributions are suggested to the Knights of Columbus.
