Cathy Widner, age 62, La Cygne, Kan., passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at her home. She was born on Nov. 27, 1955, at Butler, Mo., the daughter of Elzie Eugene and Joy Madeline Barker Slaughter. 

She graduated from Prairie View High School.

She married Daniel Widner on Dec. 21, 1975. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2013. 

Cathy was a member of the New Life Baptist Church in La Cygne. 

She was a very talented craftswoman and seamstress. She made ceramics and different types of jewelry. But, most importantly, she was a homemaker who took care of her family and helped many others who were down on their luck. 

She worked in nursing homes in La Cygne, Osawatomie and Paola, and was a foster parent to many. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, George Slaughter. 

Cathy is survived by her children, Jodi Meek, Katie Knop, Matt Widner, Krystal Davidson and Ali Bauer; a brother, David Slaughter; a sister, Marsha Wunderly; and six grandchildren, Hunter, Macaleigh, Gracelyn, Danielle, Madeline and Isabelle.

Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel.

Nobodys wins Blue Mound co-ed softball tournament

The team called Nobodys wins the Blue Mound 4th of July co-ed softball tournament on July 5. This year the tournament consisted of eight teams. The Nobodys is Keith Morrell’s team and has been a part of the softball tournament since it started three years ago.

Pleasanton 12-14 baseball wins championship

The Pleasanton 12-14 baseball team wins their league tournament on June 30 to July 1. Pleasanton hosted the tournament and won in the championship against La Cygne 11-7.
