Charles Leon Holmes, age 85, was born Aug. 8, 1936, on his parents’ farm near Prescott, Kan., the son of Harold S. and Marguerite Coon Holmes. Leon lived his entire life in the Prescott community attending grade school at Shiloh and Prescott and graduating from Prescott High School in the Class of 1954.

He was a member of the National Guard Battalion A. He drove a truck for Stevens Produce in Prescott and Joe Rei Trucking in Blue Mound.  He then became a full-time farmer. 

He was united in marriage to Marilyn Pinkerton on June 11, 1961, in the Mantey United Methodist Church. They are the parents of one son, Larry Lee Holmes. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milton and Jay; a sister, Elma Casida Avery; and a nephew, Jay Lee Casida. Leon is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Larry Holmes; four grandsons, Larry Leon (Chip), Levi Joseph, Luke Donovan Lee and Lane Laford; three great-grandchildren, Kenny, Brailee and Lillian; and four nieces and three nephews. 

Graveside funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021, at the Prescott Cemetery. Individual respects and guest registry was scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel.
