Clarence Jackson Townsley, age 97, Blue Mound, Kan., passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Fort Scott Manor, Fort Scott, Kan. He was born on Dec. 22, 1917, at Blue Mound, the son of Clarence Arthur and Corda Edith Jackson Townsley.

He graduated from Blue Mound High School in the Class of 1935. He was an Army veteran proudly serving his country during World War II. He married Helen Emmons in Wichita, Kan., on Oct. 4, 1943.

During his working career he ran a bait and tackle shop in Florida. Later he and wife Helen owned and operated Townsley IGA.

Clarence was a former member of the Kincaid, Kan., VFW. He was a member of the Blue Mound Federated Church and Blue Mound American Legion Post #279.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Berna Dee Bradley; three brothers, Lindel, Frank and Donald Townsley; five sisters, Nellie Newman, Dortha Glidden, Alma Florence, Betty Brillhart and Verla Cowel; a grandson, Quinten; and two great grandchildren, Aleesha and Crislynn.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen; two sons, Gene Townsley and wife Diana, and Howie Townsley; daughter, Loretta Murrow and husband Michael; sister, Joan Scott; and eight grand and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2015, at the Blue Mound Federated Church. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Online condolences for the family can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
