Clyde Elmore Matthews, age 93 of Amoret, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at his home in Amoret. He was born Oct. 10, 1923, to Isaac and Alice Lorena Hendrickson Matthews in Amoret.
Clyde, one of two boys, grew up in Amoret and graduated in 1941. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army.
On June 29, 1948, he was united in marriage to Eulela May Bohlken in Butler, Mo., and to this union three sons were born. Clyde worked as a carpenter, owning and operating his own business. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Odd FellowsLodge.
Clyde’s enjoyments included fishing, mowing the lawn and watching his grandkids and great-grandkids play sports. He loved watching Royals baseball and Chiefs football. He will be remembered for his compassion, joking, one-of-a-kind personality and immense love for his family.
Clyde is survived by his wife Eulela Matthews of Amoret; three sons, Robert Matthews and wife Kathleen of Harrisonville, Mo., Steve Matthews and wife Sandra, and Kevin Matthews and wife Christy, all of Amoret; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Ike Matthews.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler with Linda Dudley officiating. Burial was in Benjamin Cemetery, Amoret.
