Dorothy “Cleo” Whitten, age 102, Hume, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at the Prescott Country View. She was born on July 5, 1914, at Passaic, Mo., the daughter of David Allen and Melinda Mosier Zwahlen. She was married to Thomas Whitten who preceded her in death in 1960.
She babysat and was a dietician at Fort Scott Mercy Hospital starting in 1969 and retiring when she turned 70. She then worked as cook at the Hume School. She was a member of the Worland Baptist Church, Hume Senior Citizens and quilted with the Hume Methodist ladies, whom she dearly loved.
She was also preceded in death by a son Thomas Whitten.
Cleo is survived by a daughter Linda Wymore; four grandchildren Thomas Whitten Jr. and Ellen, Ronald Whitten and Jodi, Tonya Jacobs and Shane, and Tammy Hendren; seven great-grandchildren Whitney, Dalton, Melinda, Scott, Hannah, Tommy and Haleigh; and four great-great-grandchildren Logen, Hadley, Wyatt and Cole.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at the Salem Cemetery, Foster, Mo. The family suggests contributions to the Salem Cemetery, c/o Schneider Funeral Home. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
