Elda Mae Burch, 78, of Pleasanton, Kan., died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, at Olathe Hospice House following a long battle with her health.

Elda Mae was born at home in Miami County on Dec. 17, 1946, to Corval Wayne and Vera Mae (Craig) Day. Elda Mae attended country grade schools and graduated from Parker Rural High School with the Class of 1964. On Oct. 30, 1966, Elda Mae married the love of her life, Raymond Lloyd Burch, at Beagle United Methodist Church in Beagle, Kan. Elda Mae greatly enjoyed being a dairyman’s wife. She fed the calves, baled hay and even raised hogs. She was busy from sun up to sun down. As her younger sister said, “breakfast was first thing in the morning, supper was just before bed and dinner was anytime in between.” Elda Mae was a member of Beagle United Methodist Church but she regularly attended Pleasanton United Methodist Church.

Elda Mae’s parents preceded her in death, her father in 1999 and her mother in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Corval Lawrence Day, in 1996; and one nephew, Larry Amer, Sr., in 2024.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Raymond; her sister, Karen Kilbourn (Melvin); two sisters-in-law, Brenda Day and Dorothy Meek; and eight nieces and nephews, Kenneth Meek, Darlene Norvel, Fred Meek (Monica), Craig Kilbourn (Stephany), Caleb Kilbourn (Beth), Courtney Hoskins (Jimmy), Corval “Max” Day, and Mara Day.

A memorial service for Elda Mae will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at Schneider Funeral Home and Cremations, Pleasanton Chapel.  A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Mound City, Kan. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Beagle United Methodist Church or the Pleasanton United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 525, Pleasanton, KS 66075.
