Evalyn Jane Stites, 74, Fontana, Kan., passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015, at the Miami County Medical Center. She was born on Dec. 28, 1940, at Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of Ardith and Eva Jo Klopp Horttor. She graduated from Blue Mound High School and later married George Stites on Aug. 28, 1959. She was a good Christian woman who enjoyed reading, game shows, and playing cards and board games.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Calvin Stites; and a grandson, Shane Schlesener.

She is survived by her husband, George; two daughters, Jacque Schlesener and husband Rick, and Janelle Thomas; two brothers, Carl and DeLoss Horttor; two sisters, Carol Jo Cowell and Ardith Rice; eight grand- and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015, at the Blue Mound Federated Church. Burial will be in the Sunny Slope Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel.
