Fern E. Nichols, age 91, Pleasanton, Kan., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, at Medicalodges of Butler, Mo. She was born in Oklahoma, the daughter of Niles and Frona Cutshall. 

She was married to Alfred “A.W.” Nichols on Aug. 5, 1944, in Independence, Kan. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2009. 

Fern was also preceded in death by her brother, Dicky Dean Cutshall, sister Clara Kettleman and parents. 

Fern was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She helped milk the cows and did other chores around the farm including packing lunches to the field every day. 

She was always very involved in her church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and being involved in the Women’s Ministry. She found time to be involved in the community by running the snack shack at Pleasanton Saddle Club. She enjoyed crafting, working in her flower beds, her favorites being irises, marigolds, and hens and chicks. 

Above all, with the exception of her Lord, family was the most important part of Fern’s life. She loved to attend activities such as the rodeo, horse shows and the Linn County Fair.

Fern is survived by son J.R. Nichols and wife Vickie; four daughters, Sherrie Clifton and husband Roy, Sandra Vredenburg and husband Jim, Nancy Knight and husband Jimmy, and Judy Voth and husband Frank; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and six great, great grandchildren.

Funeral service is 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug.29, 2018, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel, with burial in the Pleasanton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to service time at the chapel.
