Irene Cox Demott, born Aug. 16, 1928, in Centerville, Kan., the youngest and only daughter of Colyer Eugene Cox and Ethel May Kenison, passed away Oct. 11, 2014, in Knoxville, Tenn., after a few years of declining health. Irene graduated from Blue Mound High School in 1946.
She leaves behind two older brothers, Maurice Cox and Elton Cox both of Kansas; five children, Douglas (Shelia), Jeanette, David, Dennis (Kerry) and Daniel (Libby) Demott; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Private services for the family were held at Bearden United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Tenn., where she was a member and attended until her declining health.
She always yearned to return to Kansas and her ashes will be placed in her plot beside her mother’s and father’s gravesites in Blue Mound, Kan.
