Isabel Marie Read, age 101, Mound City, Kan., passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019, at The Residencies at Pleasanton, Kan. She was born in Linnville, Kan., on Oct. 7, 1917, the daughter of Harley Otis and Pearl May Shaffer Johnson.

She graduated from Mound City High School in the Class of 1935 and attended Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg, where she received her Teaching Certificate. She taught for 11 years in Linn County country schools.

 Isabel married Martin Read on April 25, 1948, at the Pleasanton United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 2003.

She was a member of the Mound City United Methodist Church and a 4-H leader for 10 years, and loved visiting with family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Otis, John and Perry Johnson; and a son-in-law, Terry Heiser.

Isabel is survived by a son, Marty Read and wife Beverly; a daughter, Mary Jane Heiser; a sister, Viola Campbell; grandchildren Will, Naomi, Becky and husband Brandon, Kala and husband Matthew, Meagan and husband Josh, and Rachel and husband Eddie; and great grandchildren Dalton, Rylee, Eli, Gage, Creed, Pearl May, Silas and Roslyn.

Funeral service was scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2019, at the Mound City United Methodist Church with burial in the Linnville Cemetery. Visitation was scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel.
