Joe Stephen Teagarden, age 72, La Cygne, Kan., passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2023.  He was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Aug. 15, 1951, the son of Carl and Frances Good Teagarden. He was in the last graduating class of La Cygne Rural High School. He then attended Kansas State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Animal Science degree. 

While attending K-State he met his future wife, Vicki Leister. The two were united in marriage on Aug. 19, 1972, in Salina, Kan. Joe worked as a rural postal carrier for over thirty years. He also enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He was a talented craftsman, stamping and tooling many types of leather items. Joe was very involved in First Lutheran Church in Paola, Kan., having served as an elder and sang in the choir. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Shawn Teagarden on Nov. 14, 2019; and a brother, Glenn Ray Teagarden on June 8, 1977.  Joe is survived by his wife, Vicki; a son, Scott Teagarden and wife, Baylee; and six grandchildren, Wesley, Ellie, Carter, Cooper, Ben, and Jordan.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Paola.  Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory La Cygne Chapel.
