John Patrick Tillisch, age 78, Prescott, Kan., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at his home. He was born on March 17, 1940, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Roop) Tillisch.

He worked for TWA, but was truly a farmer at heart. He was united in marriage to Judith Graham Houtman on Aug. 30, 2014. He attended the Mound City United Methodist Church, was a member of the American Legion in both Mound City and Tonganoxie and the Legion Riders, served as a ride captain for the Patriot Guard, was a Red Cross volunteer, and volunteered for more than 30 years as a firefighter, EMT and first responder.

John was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles; and a sister, Martha Kesler and husband Robert. 

He is survived by his wife Judith; daughter Jacqueline Rosenthal and husband Brad; brother Fred Tillisch; two grandchildren, Jason Childress, and Audrey Childress and Erika; three stepdaughters, Anne Prouty, Elaine Houtman and Kathy Houtman; three step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ardelle Tillisch; and eight nieces and nephews. 

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at the Mound City United Methodist Church, visitation at 9 a.m. A second service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, McLouth, Kan., visitation at 10 a.m. Interment with military rites will be held 1:30 p.m. Nov. 15, 2018, at the VA National Cemetery at Leavenworth, Kan.
