Jolene Moriconi, 87, of Lawrence, Kan., formerly of Paola, Kan., and Frontenac, Kan., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, at home surrounded by family.
She was born May 24, 1936, in Frontenac, Kan., the daughter of Joe and Clara (Morey) Merando.
Jolene was a graduate from Frontenac High School and attended Wichita State University, where she obtained her X-Ray technology training.
She married Roy Moriconi on July 6, 1956. He preceded her in death five months ago on June 18, 2023.
Jolene worked in a doctor’s office providing x-rays for 2 years. They moved to Mound City, Kan., in 1961 for Roy’s first teaching job. In 1969 they moved to Paola. They both worked in education and Jolene was an administrative assistant for adult education in Paola and Fort Scott Community College extension. In 2014 they moved to Lawrence to be closer to family.
Jolene enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, camping and traveling. She loved spending time with her family and friends, which she had many of both. She will be deeply missed.
Survivors include, three children, Lisa Rowe and husband, Rick, of Lawrence, Craig Moriconi and wife, Evelyn, of Bentonville, Ark., Karen Kay Sanford-Moriconi of Lecompton, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy; one brother; and infant daughter MaryAnn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Joshua Evans as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
A Parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023, at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac.
Family will receive friends following the rosary until 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church toward renovations; these may be mailed to the funeral home.
Services are by the Friskel Funeral Home of Frontenac, 230 E. McKay Frontenac, Kan. 66763.
