Kelley Leroy Holmes, age 72, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Medicalodge of Fort Scott. He was born Sept. 26, 1943, in Prescott, Kan., the son of Walter Grant Holmes and Hazel D. Largent Holmes. 

Kelley worked most of his life in the farming industry. In his earlier years he enjoyed camping and fishing. He served our country in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include three daughters Amy Piersall and husband, Brent, Katie Papay and husband, Kenneth, and Rachel Valerdi and husband, Ken; granddaughters Carly Mercer and husband, Norman, Reed Papay, Jenna Papay, Kiara Valerdi and Tiana Valerdi; grandsons Brady and Cole Papay; a great-grandson Logan Mercer; one brother Norman Coureton and wife, Sue; and two sisters Carol Nichols and Maxine Bernack.

He was preceded in death by a son Kelley Leroy Holmes Jr.; two brothers Robert Laudan and Walter Gene Holmes; one sister Louise Nevius; and his parents.

There was cremation. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Holmes Cemetery, Prescott, Kan. Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.
