Laura "Elaine" Johnson, age 82, Mound City, Kan., passed away Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021. She was born Sept. 14, 1939, in the Armourdale community of Kansas City, Kan. She was the last of 12 children born to Clarence C. and Laura Smith Gross. Elaine spent the bulk of her childhood in the Armourdale Community.

Though Elaine did work in the Mound City nursing home for a time, she was most content in being a wife and mother. Elaine had a variety of hobbies such as, sewing, traveling and reading a wide variety of Christian books. She was an active church member and enjoyed all of these before the onset of Alzheimer's which ultimately took her life. She is survived by her husband Bob D. Johnson, of the home; two sons, Brad Johnson of Arma, Kan., and Kendall Johnson and wife Doris of Mound City; brother-in-law, David Johnson of Pleasanton, Kan.; sister, Sandra Strickland of Dallas, Ga.; two brothers, James Gross of Phoenix, Ariz., and Robert Gross of Orlando, Fla.; four grandsons, Bobby H. Johnson and wife Jamie, Clinton W. Johnson and wife Emily, all of Mound City, Jakob A. Johnson of Platte City, Mo., and Kirk A. Johnson of Overland Park, Kan.; a granddaughter, Kristina A. Pierce and husband Steven; six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, at the Richland Cemetery. Elaine will lie in state from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday before the service at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel.
