Laura Ellen Weitman Paul, age 76, of La Cygne, Kan., passed away Friday, June 7, 2024. She was born on Dec. 22, 1947, in Quincy, Ill., the daughter of Ivan R. and Edna F. Parrish Weitman. She graduated from LaBelle Rural High School, LaBelle, Mo., in the class of 1965. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Truman State University and established her career as being the Parker Second Grade teacher hired by USD 362 in 1969 and remained in that position for forty years.

Besides teaching, Laura also had passions for reading, cooking, and sewing (especially baby things and quilts.) She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandma. Laura was united in marriage to Raymond E. Paul on Feb. 12, 1972. She was preceded in death by her parents. Laura is survived by her loving husband, Raymond E. “Butch” Paul, of over 52 years; a son Matthew Gerard and his wife Quynh Anh Paul; a daughter Rachel Erin and her husband Jeffrey Pommier; a sister Francie Geisendorfer; four grandchildren: Grace Pommier, Leah Pommier, George Paul, John Pommier; a loving church family; and many friends.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in La Cygne. A rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. No visitation is scheduled. Memorial contributions are suggested to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 304, La Cygne, Kan, 66040. Nobodys wins Blue Mound co-ed softball tournament

The team called Nobodys wins the Blue Mound 4th of July co-ed softball tournament on July 5. This year the tournament consisted of eight teams. The Nobodys is Keith Morrell’s team and has been a part of the softball tournament since it started three years ago.

Pleasanton 12-14 baseball wins championship

The Pleasanton 12-14 baseball team wins their league tournament on June 30 to July 1. Pleasanton hosted the tournament and won in the championship against La Cygne 11-7.
