Loyd Allen Brownback, age 77, Mound City, Kan., passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, at the Kansas City Hospice House. He was born on Jan. 28, 1946, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Leo and Mable McRae Brownback. He graduated from Mound City High School in the Class of 1964. He then attended and graduated from Fort Scott Community College.
Loyd was united in marriage to Linda Sue Roberds on Jan. 22, 1967. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2003. He later married Mary McLaughlin Dare on Aug. 7, 2006. Loyd worked for and retired from General Motors. He then farmed and bought and sold cars. In earlier days he enjoyed riding motorcycles. He enjoyed classic cars. He was involved in many car shows and parades. He was faithful in attending his children's school activities and carried that to his grandchildren. He attended ball games and rodeos too numerous to count. He was a member of the Mound City United Methodist Church.
Loyd is survived by his wife Mary; son John Brownback and wife Jeana; daughter, Michelle Johnson; stepchildren, Shelly Callanan and husband Pat, Mike Dare, and Monty Dare and wife Kelsie; brother, Herb Brownback and wife Mary Lou; sister, Lois Wright and husband Dale; grandchildren, Colton, Rachel, Trevor, Ashley, Kelsey, Emily, and Brynlee, and two great-grandchildren, Chandler and Penelope.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at the Mound City United Methodist Church. Burial in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5 at the Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City Chapel. Memorial Contributions are suggested to Linn County Care to Share, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, 319 Chestnut, Mound City, Kan. 66056.
