Marie Elayna Cantrell, 62, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Mo. Maria was born on Dec. 23, 1957, in Detroit, Mich., to Larry Lee and Marnell (Modlin) Blasengym. She married William “Bill” Olen Cantrell, and he preceded her in death in September 2017.
Marie spent most of her childhood in Michigan before the family relocated to Kansas. She and her husband Bill lived in Blue Mound, Kan., until his death. She moved to El Dorado Springs, Mo., in the early months of 2019 to be closer to her mother and siblings.
Marie “Mo” enjoyed church, crocheting and spending time with her family. She had the kindest heart with an infectious smile and never met a stranger. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.
Survivors include her mother, Marynell, El Dorado Springs; her daughter, Christania Gonzales, Topeka, Kan.; siblings Vickie Smith (Junior) and Leslie Roberts (Terry), both of Maysville, Mo., David Swan and Bill Modlin (Kristie), both of Nevada, Mo., Otto Modlin (Kathy), Walker, Mo., Lori Smith, Suzie Coonts (Jerry), both of El Dorado Springs, Paul Modlin (Angie), Moundville, Mo., and Jimmy Wallace, Kathy Case and Donna Wallace, all of Independence, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and father; a brother, Gary Coe; and a sister, Mary Ann Kessner.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo., with Pastor Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Sunny Slope Cemetery, Mound City, Kan.
