Mary Ellen Galichia, 91, of Arma, Kan., died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at Via Christi Hospital at Pittsburg, Kan.
Mrs. Galichia was born March 28, 1923 at Mound City, Kan., the daughter of John and Dorothy Kellerman Kenney.
Mary Ellen was a homemaker and had worked for her father and uncle in the grocery store in Mound City, Kan. She was raised in Mound City and graduated from Mound City High School. She also worked in the cafeteria at Shawnee Mission Schools and served on the election board. She lived in Kansas City and Overland Park prior to moving to rural Arma in 1980.
She married Lawrence Galichia Aug. 4, 1945, at Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Galichia preceded her in death Oct. 25, 2009. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma.
Survivors include a daughter, Georganne Galichia of Arma; three sons, John V. Galichia and his wife Debby of Peculiar, Mo., Alan L. Galichia and his wife Gina of Dallas, Texas, and James A. Galichia and his wife Jennifer of Kansas City, Mo.; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister, Joanne Kenney.
Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma, Kan., with Father Roger Lumbre as the celebrant. Burial was at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712.
