Maurice Cox, 95, of Mound City, Kan., passed away July 2, 2015, at St. Luke’s South Hospital. Maurice was born Dec. 18, 1919, at Fort Scott, Kan., to Colyer Eugene and Ethel Mae (Kennison) Cox.
Maurice graduated from Mound City High School. On Oct. 13, 1939, he married Frances Hall in Oskaloosa, Kan. Frances preceded him in death Jan. 10, 2004.
Maurice was a farmer and stockman and also a DeKalb Seed and Liquid Fertilizer Dealer. Maurice was a member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church, the Blue Mound School Board, the R.E.A. Board, and an FFA State Star Scholar.
On May 10, 2006, Maurice married Ann DeMott Danley. She survives of the home.
Maurice was also preceded in death by one son, Eugene Cox; one sister, Irene DeMott; and an infant brother.
Additional survivors include one son and his wife, Jim and Carol Cox of Pittsburg; two daughters, Pat Dickinson and her husband, Jerry, and Roberta Thompson; stepson, Fred Danley and Virginia; stepdaughters, Linda Pinneo and Henry, and Kathy Shaughnessy and Bill; one brother, Elton Cox; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren with one more arriving soon; six step-grand- and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Maurice was held Friday, July 10, 2015, at Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Inurnment was in Sunny Slope Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Donations may be sent in care of Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, P.O. Box J, Mound City, KS 66056.
