Melvin Lee Ransier, age 86 of Pleasanton, Kan., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018. Melvin was born Saturday, April 23, 1932, in Pleasanton, the son of Otis and Sarah Jane (Hartman) Ransier.

Melvin served in the United States Army for five years, where he received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

He was a member of the United Mine Workers and was a retired coal miner. Melvin loved mushroom hunting and fishing.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Shirley; second wife Bessie; a daughter, Mary Ransier; nine brothers, Pete, Floyd, Earnest, Grover, Gene, Art, Vernon, Otis and Dick Ransier; and three sisters, Helen Ransier, Floretta Ransier and Ruth Ellen Beasley.

He is survived by four sons, Robert McCallum, and David, Ernest and Billy Ransier; four daughters, Linda Christenson, Charlene Wynn, Kathy Marshall and Caral “Tina” Hiel; three stepsons, Sam, Larry and Jeff Brittle; one step grandson, Danny Looney; several grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service was held Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel.

The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society, which may be sent in care of Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 525, Pleasanton, KS 66075.
