Nancy Lynn Burton, age 69, of Sugar Valley Lakes near Mound City, Kan., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at St. Luke’s South in Overland Park, Kan. She was born on Feb. 4, 1946, at Paola, Kan., the daughter of George and Evelyn Seck Fort.

She graduated from Paola High School. During her working career she was employed by Panhandle, Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Osawatomie State Hospital and most recently at the Linn County Register of Deeds.

She married James “J. W.” Burton on Aug. 6, 2004. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, Militia Immaculata, Sugar Valley Lakes Ladies and Co-Ed Golf Club.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother Larry Fort.

She is survived by her husband J. W. Burton; mother, Evelyn Fort; sons Curtis Fountain and Diana, Chad Light and Nancy; stepsons Mike Burton and Michelle, and Jeff Burton and Julie; stepdaughters, Kim Bray, Jacque Grandon and Rick, Krissie Kliewer and Ramon and Shanna Harper and Lee; a brother Jay Fort; sister Dee Baker; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Paola.

Private family inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Paola. Rosary will be prayed 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Visitation will follow from 5 to 7 p.m. A second visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to service time at Holy Trinity.

The family suggests contributions to St. Jude’s or Vision of Children Foundation for Ocular Albinism. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com. Arrangements: Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel.
