Orie Ellen Whitson, 85, of Mound City, Kan., died on Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, at St. Luke's South, Overland Park, Kan. Orie Ellen was born at Farlinville, Kan., on Sept. 23, 1933, to John Orville and Ellen Gertrude (Graham) Whitson.
She graduated from Mound City High School with the Class of 1951.
For many years she worked as a caregiver in and around Mound City. Orie Ellen loved gardening and she especially enjoyed her flowers. She also sewed and enjoyed helping at Mound City United Methodist Church, where she was a member.
Orie Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wesley Whitson; and her sister, Ella May Norman.
Orie Ellen never married but enjoyed her six nieces and two nephews who survive her: Susie Jackman, Tommie Norman and wife Peg, Melvin "Butch" Norman and wife Melva Jo, Lutretia "Pat" Dudley and husband Richard, Connie Jackman and husband Henry, Beverly Covey, Alice Adams, and Carol Ericson and husband David. Also surviving are great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
A funeral service for Orie Ellen will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at Schneider Funeral Home & Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Mound City. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
