Owen Stites Dunavan, age 88, Mound City, Kan., went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, Aug. 3, 2015. He was born on Sept. 20, 1926, at Mound City, Kan., the son of Wilbur and Zelda Stites Dunavan. He graduated from Mound City High School where he was involved in the Livestock Judging Team.
He married Julia “Judy” Murray on Nov. 21, 1944. She preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 1993. He later married Charlotte New Brown on Feb. 5, 1994.
Owen was a rancher, farmer, heavy equipment operator for Glen “Gunner” Burge, ran a saw mill and managed the Mound City Co-op during his working career, but his passion was flying planes and crop dusting. He was a member of the Wall Street Christian Church and the American Legion Hewitt New Post 248 at Mound City.
Also preceding him was a daughter Margaret “Peggy” Dunavan; a great-grandson Clancy; a brother Russell; two sisters, Thelma and Ida and a stepson Monty Brown.
Owen is survived by his wife Charlotte; two daughters, Patricia “Patty” Stude, Deborah “Debi” Umphenour; stepdaughter LeaAnn Brown Davenport and two stepsons, Rod Brown and Dan Brown; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at the Wall Street Christian Church. Burial was in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Wall Street Christian Church.
