Priscilla “Pat” Haney Smith passed away Saturday June 7, 2025, at the Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan. 

She was born on Nov. 19, 1935, in Topeka, Kan., to Neil and Gladys (Goldsmith) Haney. She spent her childhood in Kansas, Arizona, and Utah, attending four different high schools before graduating from Topeka High School in 1953. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education from Manhattan Christian College in 1962.

While attending MCC, Pat met Bruce Smith. The two were married on Aug. 28, 1955. Bruce began his ministry the very next Sunday, eventually serving as a minister for 55 years.

Pat worked in retail and also served as a church secretary. She had a deep love for music—she played the piano, sang, and performed with English handbell choirs in various groups. She also enjoyed participating in bowling and volleyball leagues throughout her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bruce; and her brother David Haney.

She is survived by daughters, Lisa (Kevin) Ingram, of Manhattan, Kan., and Stacy (Kurt) Mortensen, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her sisters in law, Virginia Mathews, and Carol Haney; her six grandchildren, Lauren (Nic) Ingram Evans, Tyler and Ashley Ingram, Chelsey (Derek) Mortensen Franco, Paige Mortensen, Widsherine Mortensen Ventura, and Gentry (Jakob)Mortensen Tangney; and eight great-granddaughters.

Services will be held on Saturday July 5, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Crestview Christian Church, 3940 Excel Road in Manhattan.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Manhattan Christian College. Contributions may be sent in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kan. 66502.

Nobodys wins Blue Mound co-ed softball tournament

The team called Nobodys wins the Blue Mound 4th of July co-ed softball tournament on July 5. This year the tournament consisted of eight teams. The Nobodys is Keith Morrell’s team and has been a part of the softball tournament since it started three years ago.

Pleasanton 12-14 baseball wins championship

The Pleasanton 12-14 baseball team wins their league tournament on June 30 to July 1. Pleasanton hosted the tournament and won in the championship against La Cygne 11-7.
