Richard Scott Secrest, age 93 of Nevada, Mo., formerly of Pleasanton, Kan., passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. He was born the son of Ancil and Beulah (Jackson) Secrest on May 29, 1929, at Edgerton, Kan. Richard married Betty Slater on Oct. 18, 1952, at Pleasanton, Kan. He served in the National Guard. Richard owned a truck stop in Olathe, Kansas until the early 1980’s and was a supervisor for Beachner Construction, he also was a gardener and woodworker. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde and Robert Secrest; and two sisters, Mary Avery and Elizabeth Dingus. Richard is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty; two sons, Richard and Russell Slater; a daughter, Connie Northup; a brother, William Secrest; a sister, Alice Searl; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Presbyterian Church of Nevada, Mo., and be sent in care of Schneider Funeral Home P.O.
