Robert “Lewis” Dale, age 85, La Cygne, Kan., passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019. He was born in Mina, Ark., on Feb. 12, 1934, the son of Dewey Sr. and Mary Ann Dunn Dale.

He attended elementary school at Osawatomie and graduated from Parker Rural High School. He worked as a telegraph operator for Missouri Pacific Railroad.

On Aug. 20, 1975, Lewis married Stella Margaruette Hunter.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and was baptized on July 29, 1984.

As a young boy, he excelled at school. He enjoyed trapping and tanning hides, and collecting arrowheads, rocks and pocket knives. Lewis loved taking things apart to see how they worked. He liked to read about American history, listen to country music, watch westerns and write in his journals. He also liked to garden and raise oxen and goats. He was almost never without a dog and had several pets over the years. Lewis had strong opinions and wrote to the editor several times in the local paper about local concerns. As he got older, he became interested in genealogy and did extensive research. Lewis and Stella purchased the farm he was raised on, where they lived together and where Lewis called home for 70 years.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Burial will be in the Cadmus Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to service time at the chapel.

Contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
