Thelma Irene Freeman, age 78, of La Cygne, Kan., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, in Osawatomie, Kan. Irene was born the daughter of Raymond Earl and Dorothy (Jerry) G. Kitchell Templin in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 5, 1942. She married Lloyd Freeman on Dec. 21, 1965, in Ottawa, Kan.; he preceded her in death in 2006. She earned a four year degree in nursing and worked in nursing for many years. In her later years, Irene worked with Senior Helpers and Hospice Care as well, until her retirement in December 2020. She loved nursing and helping people, reading and especially crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, George Freeman; and one grandchild, Anthony (AJ) Heller. Irene is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Heller and husband, Jay; daughter-in-law, Melanie Freeman; one brother, William Templin; five sisters, Rose Templin, Dorothea Anderson and husband, Edward, Clara Freeman, Patricia Whitaker and husband, Allen, Vanda Good and husband, Steve; four grandchildren, Timothy and Trey Heller, Dominick and Quentin Freeman; and three great-grandchildren, Jayda, Tessa and Macie Heller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Kansas Palliative Care and Hospice and the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.
Memorial Service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. The family suggests contributions to Kansas Palliative Care and Hospice or Senior Helpers; these may be sent in care of the funeral home to P.O. Box 304 La Cygne, Kan. 66040.
