Thelma Irene “Jo” Orton, age 87, of Humboldt, Kan., passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, in Chanute, Kan. Thelma was born on Sept. 22, 1928, in Mound City, Kan., the daughter of Russell and Beulah Rose (Bowman) Krull.
On Nov. 9, 1947, Thelma married Dale A. Orton in Fort Scott, Kan. Dale preceded her in death.
Thelma was a homemaker who loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She especially enjoyed watching her grandkids play at their ballgames. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards, listening to music and really enjoyed going to her school reunions.
Thelma was very involved with the First Baptist Church in Humboldt, Kan., and was a member of the Virginia Circle group of American Baptist Women. She was a kind woman who never held any hate or a bad word for anyone.
Thelma is survived by her son Roger D. Orton of Humboldt, Kan.; daughter Regina Prather of Chanute, Kan.; brothers Howard Krull of Coon Rapids, Minn., Larry Krull of Lawrence, Kan.; and 21 grandchildren.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Beulah Krull; her husband, Dale; and a sister Myrna Faulhaber.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Humboldt, Kan. Interment was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Blue Mound, Kan. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com. Memorials have been suggested to the First Baptist Church in Humboldt and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
