Thomas Laverne “Tom” Peery, age 84, Fort Scott, Kan., formerly of Mound City, Kan., passed away Sept. 4, 2024.

Born on Sept. 4, 1940, in Farlinville, Kan., the son of Edwin T. and Mildred L. Dean Peery.  He graduated from Mound City High School in the Class of 1958. A devoted Christian who deeply loved the Lord, Thomas found great joy in his faith. Thomas proudly worked at Otis Elevator for 35 years, traveling all over the United States. His commitment to his work was only matched by his devotion to his family. Tom enjoyed hot rods, fishing, shooting, woodworking and volunteering with his local church. He loved to tinker, and enjoyed having coffee with his friends in the morning, most of all – Tom had the heart of a servant, generously using his talents to help those in need.  He was married to his beloved wife, Bonnie Metcalf, on July 27, 1958, celebrating 66 years. Together, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. He was a loving husband, father and an adored grandfather, whose presence will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Peery; and two sisters, Joyce Cummings and Debbie Rhynerson. Tom is survived by his wife, Bonnie; a son, Thomas Peery and wife, Susan; three daughters, Lisa Kellstadt and husband, Duane, Terri Mann and husband, Jim, and Becky Bustamante and husband, Michael; two brothers, Ed Peery, and Bob Peery; two sisters, Carolyn McGown, and Judy DeMott; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at the Mound City First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to Horton House Activity Fund.  Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
