Viola M. Smith Burke died March 31, 2017, at home in Cornelius, Ore. She was born in Mound City, Kan., Dec.26, 1930, to Walter “Buck” and Ida Smith of Mound City.
She went to school in Mound City, and then married Samuel “Pat” Sanders in December 1948. To this union eight children were born. They divorced in 1975 and she later married Bill Burke. He survives at the home.
She is survived by two daughters and five sons, Viola Marie, Rebecca Jane, Patrick “Bucko” William, Daniel Lewis, Robert Allen, Timothy Joseph and Dennis Leon. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Rhynerson and Marjorie Rowe; and three brothers, Robert Smith, Alfred “Bing” Smith and Kenneth Smith. She enjoyed life and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margie Ellen; several grandchildren; her parents; and one brother, Richard Smith.
