Walter B. Massey, 85 of Kansas City, Mo., died at NorthCare Hospice House Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015. He was born Sept. 7, 1929, in La Cygne, Kan., to the late Walter D. and Fern (Hutton) Massey.
He worked in law enforcement for many years, including as a motorcycle patrolman in Kansas City. He then moved to Sunnyvale, Calif., earning the rank of detective there before moving back to Kansas City where he worked for 18 years as a CSO Deputy Marshal. He enjoyed flying—he was a flight instructor for years—competitive shooting, long drives on the back roads with Patsy and he loved his family very much.
Walter is the loving husband of 26 years of Patricia “Patsy” (Gilbreath) Massey; dear father of Mary Massey-Teagardin, J.W. (Melody Fleeman) Massey, Richard D. (Loren Dickson) Massey, Chip (Amy) Massey, Jason (Cristina) Blazer and the late Joyce Lea Hopper; cherished grandfather of Mikendra (Colin), Kaitlyn, Michael, Shelby, Chuck (Lori), Lora Lea, and Addison; great-grandfather of Randy, Rachel, Paige, Kaleb, Sammy, Joy, Eden, Sophia and Isabelle; dear brother of the late Robert Gary (Diane Dotts, surviving) Massey; dear brother-in-law of Dale (Barbara) Gilbreath, their children Brian (Shelly Douglas) Gilbreath, Angela (Jeremy) Mabe; dear son-in-law of Mae Gilbreath. Also surviving are many other extended family members and friends.
Funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, Mo., with Patsy’s cousin and Pastor Gary Brewster officiating. Interment will follow at Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to NorthCare Hospice, 2800 Clay Edwards Drive, Kansas City, MO 64116.
