Wheeler E. Cortner, age 91, formerly of Blue Mound, Kan., passed away on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020. He was born in Kansas City, Mo., on December 5, 1928, the son of Wheeler D. and Pearl F. Chamberlin Cortner. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He worked as an engineer for the Rock Island Railroad. He was married to Shirley Jean Schilling who preceded him in death on June 16, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Bernard Cortner. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mound City, Kan., and the American Legion Mooney-Long Post #279, Blue Mound, Kan.

Graveside funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, at the Rosebank Cemetery, Mulberry, Kan. Visitation 10 a.m. Friday at the Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City Chapel. Wheeler will lie in state Thursday at the Schneider Mound City Chapel. Contributions are suggested to Sacred Heart Church or American Legion Post #279, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O.
