Wilma Carol Murrow, 80, resident of Mapleton, Kan., died Saturday, Aug. 16, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. She was born April 13, 1934, in Mapleton, the daughter of Irvin and Jessie Casteel Gilmore.
She married Virgil Keith Murrow May 2, 1951, in Bentonville, Ark. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Carol worked for Mid-Western Distribution in Fort Scott as a secretary for nine years, at Sugar Valley Nursing Home as a cook for nine years and then Eugene Ware School in Fort Scott as a cook for six years.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society of Mapleton and the Community of Christ Church of Mapleton.
Carol was a great cook with a special talent for chicken and noodles and French toast. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Murrow and wife Loretta, Mapleton, Eugene Murrow and wife Donna, Holton, Kan., and Kelly Murrow, Mapleton; two daughters, Debra Wolken and husband Harmon, Girard, and Brenda Meyer and husband Sam, Mound City, Kan.; a daughter in law, Gwen Murrow, Mapleton; a sister, Bernice Ross, Louisburg, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kirby Murrow; a grandson, Quinten Murrow; five sisters, Erma Mayberry, Marice Peterson, Rita Curtis and two infants; and her parents.
Elder Richard Long and Dale Cathie will conduct funeral services at 11 Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Mapleton Community of Christ Church. Burial will follow in the Mapleton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Foundation and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
