Zella Mildred Baston, 85, Pleasanton, Kan., passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2105, at Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott, Kan. She was born Jan. 11, 1930, at Pleasanton, the daughter of Roscoe Curly and Edith Martin Staton.
She attended Eureka School and graduated from Pleasanton High School in the Class of 1948.
She married Chester Baston Jan. 28, 1949, at Kansas City, Kan., when he returned from the Army. To this union three children were born, Jim, Janice and Sheryl.
When they moved to Pleasanton, she was a stay-at-home mom. She was very active in the school and community. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chamber of Commerce, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the First Christian Church. She became employed as a clerk at Baker’s Thriftway for 37 years.
Zella was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Chet, of 65 years; four sisters, Delyte Cantwell, Virginia Cox, Rosemary Johnson, and Oralee Troth; and a brother, Roy Staton.
She is survived a son, Jim Baston and wife Elisabeth; two daughters, Janice Streeter and husband Jim, and Sherry DeLaney and husband Doug; a brother, Rosco Staton; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Fort Scott National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to service time at the Pleasanton Chapel.
