On Sept. 9, just after 5:30 p.m., emergency personnel were called to the scene of a two-car collision on U.S. Highway 169 just south of Humboldt, Kan., in Allen County.

According to reports filed by the Kansas Highway Patrol, Morgan Wakefield of Mound City, was driving a 2011 Chevy Malibu northbound when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a second vehicle driven by Shawn Petterborg of Stockton, Kan.

Wakefield was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck. The driver of the second vehicle, a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup, as well as all three of his three passengers were transported to hospitals for treatment of injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the site of the wreck.
