The commissioners met for their regular Monday meeting minus Commissioner Danny McCullough who was absent. They paid bills in the amount of $184,046.69.

Sheriff Kevin Friend sent his weekly inmate report showing 17 total prisoners with 16 in-house.

Fire Chief Randy Hegwald was appointed Linn County Emergency Management Director effective Aug. 1, 2022 2-0.

Hegwald reported 12 total runs last week with 332 year-to-date. He said they found a house in Prescott that they will conduct smoke training in.

Dumping fees were remediated for La Cygne for a property located at 20261 Taylor Road, owned by Joan Newport. Also remediated was a house in Mound City owned by Melissa Weldon at 5971 Montgomery Road.

The State Fire Marshall approved occupancy of the Justice Center and the architect was scheduled to sign off on the building Monday.

Scarecrow Mowing was approved to mow and weed-eat the new Justice Center for $110.

Rural Water District 3 paid for the $300 permit to bore under Plum Creek Road.

Approximately $10,700 in recyclables, for the first two quarters of the year, was turned into the county in various recycling containers.

Codes Officer Dennis Wilson was approved to purchase five baskets that will be fitted to the Centerville sewer system to keep rags, etc. out of the lift station pumps. The cost will be $7,145 and include labor from ASC Pumping and Equipment Inc.

The commissioners approved joining a regional grant with SEK Regional Planning Commission for Safe Streets and Roads for All.  The county’s portion of $5,073 will join with the other 12 counties in the region and pay for an action plan with KDOT and US Department of Transportation.

The plan will tell Linn County which streets, roads or bridges the grant will pay for to make them safer.

Economic Development Director Jessica Hightower said the goal of the grant is to reduce fatalities and can be used to apply for more grants.

The commissioners asked that Wilson look for other companies to update county zoning regulations after only one company turned in a response for a request for proposal on the zoning regulation update request.

County Clerk David Lamb said there was a 45 percent turnout of voters in Linn County for the Primary Election. There are 53 provisional ballets of 98 that he suggested the commissioners add to the total number of votes in Linn County.
