The October 10, 2022, meeting of Prescott city council opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. 

Councilman Ron Roberts was absent.

A motion was made and passed to approve Sept. 12, 2022 council meeting minutes.

Then a motion was made and passed to approve the payment of bills.

Karen Springer was unable to attend the meeting but the Pantry Outreach report was given to City Clerk Kathy Wood to present to the council.  The month of September 2022 there were 255 households and a total of 663 people served through the pantry/harvesters.  Sixty pounds of food were donated by three different families.  John Smith donated 50 lbs. of tomatoes.   

Mayor Kevin Wood talked to council about the Halloween Costume Party.  It was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 at Prescott City Hall, starting at 6 p.m.  The Trunk or Treat will take place Halloween night starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Prescott City Hall parking lot.

Mayor Wood also informed the council that he and Fritz Norbury had met with Vance Brothers and they are going to come back and fix the problems with the roads and the city of Prescott would hold off billing until the work was done.  Kevin Wood mentioned that he would like to see the city pay them as soon as they finished and gave them the bill.

A motion was made and passed to pay the Vance Brother’s bill when they are finished and give us a bill.

Kevin Wood also discussed the digital water meters that the city is going to purchase with the Recovery Act money.  Kevin told council that the city attorney said Prescott did not have to have a second or third bid to go ahead with our plans.   

A motion was made and passed to move forward with the purchase of the digital water meters.

Kevin Wood also told council members that the Prescott Coal Centre Day went well.  The parade was small but turned out well.  Chicken dinner served close to 100 people.  Everyone enjoyed the street dance with Bourbon County Revival Band. 

Kathy Wood reported that the maintenance crew had been trimming trees for the bus route and had talked to the mayor about purchasing a saw to get the work done.  The saw was purchased and work is now done.  City Employees Todd and Nick also had some work to do on the white truck which is now finished.   

Kathy Wood informed the council of four small puppies that were found by the Prescott Cemetery.  Kathy called Regina’s Rescue and they came and got the puppies and were going to look at their health and take care of any problems and they would then put them up for adoption.    Kathy read two thank you cards to the council members.  One card was from the Linn County Health Department, thanking the city for the donation to help with children’s school supplies and another was from Karl and Ladean Kempinger thanking the city for the prize money from the parade that was held on Sept. 24, 2022.
