Eulela May Matthews, age 87 of Amoret, Mo., was born March 10, 1930, to George and Ethel Bowen Bohlken in Amoret. She died Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at her home in Amoret.
Eulela, one of three children, was a lifelong resident of Amoret, graduating from Amoret High School in 1948.
On June 29, 1948, she was united in marriage to Clyde Matthews, and to this union three sons were born.
Euie was a homemaker all of her life. She attended the Presbyterian Church. Eulela’s life centered around family and community. She volunteered and helped with the Community Center for funeral dinners for many years. Euie would go fishing and fry the fish for family – only to admit many years later that she never liked to eat fish in the first place.
Although the Greatest Generation often refers to the men and soldiers of WWII, it also represents the strong women who supported them – the “Pioneer Stock” – those women who never complained, worked hard and made do through the difficult Depression years.
She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eulela loved horses and all animals, quilt making, preparing holiday meals for family and gardening. Embroidery was another of her passions, from tea towels and pillowcases to tablecloths. She also liked watching the Olympics, baseball and football on television and spending time with her dogs Daisy and Hercules.
Eulela is survived by three sons, Robert Matthews and wife Kathleen of Harrisonville, Mo., Steve Matthews and wife Sandra of Amoret, and Kevin Matthews and wife Christy of Amoret; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren with one on the way; and three step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clyde in 2017; a brother, Carl Bohlken; and a sister, Dorothy Wymer.
 Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler, Mo. Burial will be in the Benjamin Cemetery in Amoret.
