Patricia Galcatcher, age 66, of Independence, Mo., passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 13, 2025, surrounded by the loving care of her sister, Paula. She was born on Oct. 29, 1958, to William and Eula Faye Hood in Quinton, Okla.
Patricia dedicated her life to serving others, beginning her career as a CNA/CMA at Colonial Manor in Tulsa, Okla., where she took great pride in providing compassionate care. In her free time, Patricia enjoyed attending Christian concerts and fellowship, where she met the love of her life, Michael Eugene Galcatcher. They were united in marriage on Dec. 28, 1982, and enjoyed 31 years of love and commitment before Michael’s passing. Together, they raised three children: Michael Daniel Galcatcher (Angela) of Mexico, Mo.; Erica Dawn Pruitt (Michael) of Richmond, Mo.; and Terri Lynn Cullifer (Montana) of Kirbyville, Texas.
After relocating to La Cygne, Kan., Patricia worked as a custodian at La Cygne Elementary School, where she found joy in decorating a display case for the students. She had to retire early due to health reasons but continued to make a lasting impact on her community. Patricia was a long-time, active member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Fort Scott, where she faithfully served by preparing meals and creating special occasion gift bags for her church family.
Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, William and Eula Faye Hood; her beloved husband, Michael; her sister, Kathleen Cordrey; and her brother, William Hood. She is survived by her sister Wilma Dunn (Owasso, Okla.); brother Eugene Hood (Quinton, Okla.); sister Paula Blan (Independence, Mo.); as well as six grandchildren: Cheyenne, Bryson, Owen, and Emmitt Pruitt, and Reagan and Brooklyn Cullifer. Patricia is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends who loved her dearly.
She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her dedication to family, and the care and love she poured into the lives of those around her. Patricia’s legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, at the Schneider Funeral Home, La Cygne Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery.
