Washington – On Wednesday, Jan. 14, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas) released the following statement after President Trump signed his legislation to restore whole milk in schools into law. The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act expands healthy milk options in schools by reversing the Obama-era law that took whole milk out of school cafeterias.

“Our country is getting back to the basics when it comes to healthier living – eating real food – and the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act fits right in. This legislation is a win for our kids, ensuring they get the nutrients they need, and for the hardworking farmers who make it possible,” said Senator Marshall. “As a physician, there’s no drink I recommend more for growing kids than whole milk. I’m proud to have worked with Senator Welch on this bipartisan effort, and I was thrilled to see President Trump sign it into law today.”

This legislation is co-led by Senator Peter Welch (D-Vermont)

“Dairy is at the heart of Vermont’s culture and local economy, which is why our bipartisan bill is a big win for Vermont’s students and farmers. This legislation, championed in partnership with colleague Senator Marshall, will expand access to whole milk in schools and ensure every student gets the vital nutrients they need to learn and thrive. It’ll also let dairy farmers in Vermont, Kansas, and around the country do what they love—feed our communities,” said Senator Welch. “I’m thankful for the strong bipartisan support of this bill. President Trump and I rarely agree on policy, but when it comes to supporting America’s farmers, we can find common ground.”
