According to a report filed by the Kansas Highway Patrol on an incident that took place in Blue Mound on May 17, Rich Henderson was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle he was helping to guide into a parking spot.

The report states that Henderson was guiding a 1923 Ford Model T driven by Calvin Adams of Kincaid, Kan., as he backed into a parking spot on Main Street in Blue Mound during the Blue Mound Blessing Car Show; Adams accidentally accelerated and his vehicle hit Henderson.

Henderson, age 74, sustained what was suspected to be a serious injury and was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment. Adams was not injured.

According to posts on social media, Henderson, who owns Luna’s Feedlot Café in Blue Mound, remains in ICU at Overland Park.

The most recent post made by a family member states Henderson is “still unconscious in critical condition in the ICU… a few days ago, he was stable enough to have a surgery to clean out and prevent infection in his broken leg, and that was successful. He is responding to pain as his medical team has been lowering sedation levels and pain meds to check on brain activity, as he has a severe brain injury. Last night they took the tube out of his skull that monitors swelling, so this is a great step forward!”

In addition, family members have posted their appreciation for those who continue to reach out in support of the local business owner.
