A “Build Your City” Open House hosted by the City of LaCygne was held at the District 2 LaCygne Library on Wednesday, April 12. The event was held in connection with the development of a long-range Comprehensive Plan to guide the city’s future growth and economic development.

Various stations set up for the public included exhibits on Master Planning, Taxes, Revenue and Expenses, Utilities, and the City Court. Other topics covered were street projects, storm water planning, housing improvements, parks and recreation, community facilities and the Police and Fire Departments.

The city has been working with the Kansas City office of The Institute for Building Technology and Safety (“IBTS”) on its Comprehensive Plan. The plan, currently in draft form, will cover growth and land use, economic development, housing, infrastructure and quality of life. IBTS is a national nonprofit organization which advises and partners with local governments on various aspects of community planning.

Mayor Deb Wilson presented certificates to the young winners of the “If I Were Mayor” contest, including Best Entry Essay to Finley Clausen, Best Poster Entry to Lacy Clausen and Community Choice Awards to Preston Arganbright and Sophie Friend.

City officials in attendance included Mayor Wilson, City Clerk Jody Wade, City Treasurer Connie Gore, Chief of Police Tina Foughty, and Planning and Zoning Commission members Bob Burnett, Devona Herrin and Devin Canada
