Darryl was born to Otis and Niona Leonard on July 27, 1945, at their rural home in Pleasanton. He graduated from Pleasanton High School in the class of 1963. Darryl served in the United States Army and served his country in the Vietnam War in the Americal Division, 4th Battalion, 21st Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade as a machine gunner, a heavy weapons squad leader and later a buck sergeant.

Darryl spent nearly 30 years working as a millwright and was a member of Local 1529. He traveled, working as a millwright, in many different locations.

Darryl was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed nature and working outdoors.

Darryl was a Christian and enjoyed studying his Bible, and listening to his favorite pastors on television. He had a strong faith and loved Jesus.

Darryl was married for 46 years to his wife Vicki (Dancy) Leonard, who survives of the home. He is survived by four children, Kimberly Killham (Willie), Branson, Mo., Kevin Friend (Robin), Pleasanton,  Aaron Leonard, Lenexa, and Damon Leonard (Jami), Pleasanton; and 10 grandchildren, Lacey, Karlee (Darren), Makayla, Isaiah, Elijah, Luke, Mason, Abbey, Madison and Walker; and four great-grandchildren, Molly, Sam, Dean and Alicen. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Leonard, and his wife Jo, of Occoquan, Va.; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Eugene Leonard and Larry Leonard.

Darryl was loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel, with burial in the Pleasanton Cemetery. 

Individual respects and guest registry can be made Friday, March 25, 2022.
