Jeffery Lynn Brown, age 67, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at the Mercy Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan. He was born Sept. 10, 1958, in Fulton, Kan., the son of Derald Dean Brown and Fern Rexine Wardrip Brown. Lynn grew up in Fulton and attended Fulton school until it consolidated with Fort Scott. He graduated from the Fort Scott High School. Lynn was united in marriage to Melissa Grigsby on Sept. 16, 1979, at Prescott, Kan. Together they raised a family built on love and faith. Lynn was a talented welder and used this skill at various companies in Fort Scott. He later worked in maintenance at Fort Scott Community College from 1989 to 2003 when his health caused him to retire early. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed sports of all kinds and loved to watch his children and grandchildren compete in their athletic events. He was a member of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church.

Lynn’s legacy will be carried on by his loving wife, Melissa; and their children, Jon Brown (Allison) of Redfield, Kan., David Brown (Sheila) of Arma, Kan., and Amelia Wiley (Dakota) of Fort Scott; and eight grandchildren, Dean, Henry, Oliver, Justin, Elaina, Kayli, Madi and Blakelynn. Two more grandchildren are on the way. Also surviving are two sisters, Shirley Webber (Gary) of Paola, Kan., and Sharon Oakes (Jim) of Clarksville, Tenn.; and a brother, Eddie Brown of Fulton, Kan. Lynn was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Lynn Brown and Daniel Joseph Brown; as well as his parents, Dean and Fern Brown.

Rev. Mike Bright assisted by Lynn’s cousin, Destry Brown, conducted funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. The family will received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday evening, Oct. 27, 2025, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Private burial took place in the Prescott Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Cherry Grove Baptist Church and may be left in the care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, Kan. 66701.
